Awesome new website!!

Syd phoned me up yesterday to ask if i fancied a bit of coffee-fuelled coding! "I was thinking ... shall we make a new website for Winchester Web Scene?" I didn't need long to consider it ... "DEFINITELY!"

So the two of us met at the Bridge Patisserie at 3pm today. 3 cappucinos, a latte and an americano later and this bright new website was up and running. It uses Zest, a CMS framework from Marmalade on Toast, and Campaign Monitor for the email subscription and notifications.

Syd did all the design, HTML and CSS, plus the integration with Google Maps, Flickr and Twitter. I used the API to fetch members from Campaign Monitor and turn them into gravatars. Now we just need to post some events, take some pictures and write some blog posts!

July 2009 BBQ Bonanza

Exciting times! We have just launched our new site and are no longer using ning (THANK GOD!).

Our next meeting will be Monday 6th July, and this time we are going to try something different. The Hyde tavern have said that we can use their BBQ.

Thanks to the kind guys at campaignmonitor.com who have pledged £100 towards food for the event, there will be some burgers and some sausages, but feel free to bring anything else you might want! I will also bring some plates and ketchup etc.

I will only supply limited number of veggie stuff, so I am sorry, but if you are that way inclined it might be best if you bring some food along.

As usual, first Monday of the month, from 7pm. Turn up / leave whenever you want.

There is wifi provided if you feel inclined to bring a laptop of sorts. And bring money for beer!

Oh and please remember they don't accept cards, so bring cash for beer.

Thanks again to campaignmonitor.com for the donation towards food and drink. We had a great Winchester Web Scene at the Hyde Tavern tonight, with an excellent turnout despite the rain and thunderstorms! We managed to stay dry most of the time, and it turned out to be a really fun atmosphere.

It got really cosy towards the end! :)

A huge shoutout to all the people who came for the first time: Lorraine, Jas, Chris, Dan, Bex, Radu, Ant, Roger and Peter.

It was also great to see so many familiar faces too: Syd, Aimee,…

Hi guys, sorry I have been busy recently so have just got round to writing up the last meet so here we are:

A massive shoutout to all those who came along: Nesh, Aimee, Kevin, Howard, Stu, Russ, Radu, Paul, Joe, Syd and anyone why might have slipped under my radar, right your details in the comments and I will add you to this list.

End of the summer is near

Right, so summer is almost over for another year. Flip-flops are going back in the cupboard, caps and sunglasses are retreating to behind the trousers and raincoats. And another month is upon us, which means only one thing!

Next Monday is Winchester Web Scene. Same time, same place (from 7pm at the Hyde Tavern).

Bring cash (they dont accept cards) and anything else you would like to bring along.

For those wanting some kind of tutorial, I (@sydlawrence) have been playing with Compass CSS, which I am sure @ukd1 would like to teach some more of and HAML. And I have read that @sermoa has been checking out the embedded BBC player, so I am sure we can badger her into discovering how it work

If you want to show something cool off, or want to know how to do something, bring stuff along.

#winchesterweb is one year old! And it's all change!

As it says on the tin (the subject) Winchester Web Scene is now 1 year old. Thanks to all of you for making it a successful event.

Now the nights are drawing in and the sun is fading away, we are changing day and venue.

Winchester Web Scene will now be the first TUESDAY of the month, and the new venue is the Corner House (http://bit.ly/3WtxCe). There is a car park right next door, so parking isn't an issue.

The next meet will be Tuesday 3rd November.

They also do food (meat & cheese platters), and accept cards, so no worrying about getting cash out first. As usual I will be there from 7pm, so come along any time after.

April meet is a chance for discussion

So for the first time in a very long time, I have preempted this reminder. Rejoice, I am not leaving it until the last minute.

The next Winchester Web Scene will be Tuesday April 6th. It is straight after Easter. Everyone loves an extra long weekend. And as a special treat, not only do you get 2 extra days off, but you also get to stuff your belly full of chocolate and not have an excuse! Easter FTW!

Anyways, I digress. Next Meeting from 7pm Tuesday April 6th at The Corner House.

Anyone got anything they would like to do a show and tell with? Aimee (@sermoa), how about a quick Mint run through, as you have been loving it so much? Mike (@MrFatFingers), fancy a quick run through of your Days Out in Hampshire iPhone app?

BBQ Bonanza 2010

Would you believe it? It has been a year since the last Winchester Web Scene BBQ. So we should probably have another one!

Great thanks to Campaign Monitor for yet again sponsoring us. They have kindly given us £100.

Due to the nature of the BBQ and the fact that I dont want to waste too much food. This is going to be an RSVP event. But of course I will be buying a few extras.
